Going Over the Pond

Tracking Beth's flight from Houston to Amsterdam. Just about to head over the North Atlantic, making good time at 36,000 feet!

In a Nutshell....

this is the Netherlands. Much of the country is essentially a flood plain. Almost half of the country is less than 3 feet above sea level. There are roughly 8,000 miles of canals and dikes in the country. This waterway was crossed on Beth's walk to work.

Early Morning in The Hague

View of the streets as Beth walks to work.

Beth in Der Haag

Just to prove she was there!

Is That a...... Car?

We think so. All we know is that Ben can't stop laughing!

Beth's Hotel

The hotel, the Carlton Ambassador, on Sophialaan. It was very small and very European, but very cute. Beth had about a twenty minute walk to Shell headquarters. She was amazed by all the various packs of chocolate around to put on your food. She could sprinkle some chocolate shavings or spread on her extra grote Stroopwafels! Americans put butter on bread, the Dutch put chocolade voor op brood! We could learn a lot from the Dutch... Just don't eat the Rood-Witjes.

Beth's Hotel Room

Still looking very European!

Shell Headquarters???

Beth was surprised to see that this ~6-story building is Shell's global headquarters. The US headquarters in Houston is a 50-story skyscraper! And yes, everyone rides bikes in the Netherlands!

On her last night in the Netherlands, Beth stayed in Amsterdam and left early the next morning bringing back a bounty of Isabel toys, t-shirts, and chocolate (Milka's the best!)
